Emergency Alert Levels
The college utilizes a tiered response system to help classify emergencies and communicate the level of impact on campus operations. Color assignments can be added once finalized.
Minor Incident
Localized event with limited impact that does not affect the overall functional capability of the college.
Emergency
Serious event that significantly disrupts one or more college operations and requires a coordinated response.
Disaster
Very serious event that seriously impacts or halts operations and requires full emergency plan activation.
How You May Be Notified
Students and employees with contact information in Banner are automatically enrolled in the college’s Emergency Notification System. Emergency communications may be delivered through the following methods:
- Text messaging
- Phone calls
- Broadcast messaging
- Digital signage
- myCCTC and the public website
- Social media
Not every communication method will be used for every incident. Messaging may vary based on the situation, location and urgency.
Inclement Weather & Campus Closures
The safety of students, faculty, staff and visitors remains the college’s top priority. Depending on conditions, the college may delay opening, close campuses, transition instruction online or adjust operations.
Decisions regarding closures, cancellations or cessation of operations are made by the College President or designee.
What To Do
Severe Weather
- Move to an interior hallway on the lowest level when directed.
- Stay away from windows and exterior doors.
- Remain in place until an all-clear is issued.
Fire or Evacuation
- Exit the building immediately using the nearest safe exit.
- Do not use elevators.
- Move to a safe location and wait for further instructions.
Shelter-in-Place
- Remain indoors.
- Secure doors and windows if appropriate.
- Await further instructions from college officials.
Active Threat
- Run if there is a safe escape path.
- Hide if evacuation is not possible.
- Fight only as a last resort when your life is in imminent danger.
Emergency Procedures by Scenario
Severe Weather
Campus safety monitors weather conditions across the college’s service area. Watches and warnings are communicated to affected campuses as needed.
Bomb Threat
Evacuate buildings when instructed, move to a safe distance and await law enforcement clearance before returning.
Fire
If the alarm sounds or an evacuation is ordered, exit the building immediately and remain outside until an all-clear is given.
Chemical Spill
Evacuate the affected area or building when directed and follow instructions from emergency personnel.
Weapon on Campus
Follow directions from college officials and law enforcement. Remain secured in place when instructed.
Campus Recovery
Following an incident, the college will assess safety conditions, communicate updates and reopen operations in an orderly manner.
Emergency Preparedness
Faculty and staff are expected to be familiar with college emergency procedures and evacuation guidance for their buildings and activities.
