Sumter Elks Lodge 855 provides a $10,000 check for future scholarships to Central Carolina Technical College’s welding department last week. Department Chairman and Program Manager Axel Reis is shown in the center. A total of 20 first-year students in the upcoming fall semester will receive $500 each to help purchase their student tool kit for the program. That tool kit is $2,000 and is the most expensive in the college’s industrial technology division.
The welding program currently has 90 students and is a two-year program at CCTC, offering a one-year certificate track or two-year advanced certificate and associate degree.
