CCTC to participate in new partnership with the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce

(06/09/2021) — Sumter, SC – Central Carolina Technical College, in conjunction with the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce, is participating in a one-of-a-kind partnership that will provide training for unemployed individuals across the state of South Carolina.

With this partnership, made possible from the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER) Funds, unemployment insurance claimants in Clarendon, Lee, Kershaw and Sumter counties will be able to participate in training programs at Central Carolina in place of conducting job searches. The program will also be at no cost to participants.

“We are excited about offering these programs at no cost to residents of CCTC’s four county service area,” said Dean of Workforce Development and South Carolina Environmental Training Center Elizabeth Williams. “Our goal is to get as many people trained as possible and get them in the workforce. These programs are a great opportunity for anyone looking for a new career path or serve as a way to enhance their current career.”

Training programs for unemployed individuals that will be offered at Central Carolina include: healthcare, computer technology, manufacturing, distribution and logistics.

“As the federal unemployment programs come to an end on June 26, 2021, we want to ensure that claimants have access to all options involving training and employment opportunities. If someone is ready to make a career change, exploring the state technical college programs should be your first step. This free training could lead to a certification or credential, which provides you access into new or higher paying jobs,” said S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce Executive Director Dan Ellzey.

Eligible participants will receive more information about this new program with an email from the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce.
