Developmental studies (DVS) courses are those numbered less than 100 (e.g., 013, 031, 032). A student’s academic progress at Central Carolina Technical College is determined by the student’s current semester and cumulative grade point average (GPA) and by the student’s progress in DVS courses. Because DVS courses do not count in a student’s GPA, it is possible for a student to have a GPA of 2.0 or higher and be placed on academic warning, probation, or suspension due to failure of DVS classes.
- If the student enters the College and requires DVS classes, the student will be required to maintain satisfactory progress as measured by grades of XA, XB, or XC in the required courses.
- If the student’s progress is unsatisfactory as measured by grades of XF in 50 percent or more of their DVS classes, the student will be placed on academic warning. Any student on warning who fails to earn satisfactory grades in 50 percent or more of their DVS classes by end of the warning semester will be placed on academic probation. Any student who fails to earn satisfactory grades in 50 percent or more of their DVS classes at the end of the probationary semester will be placed on academic suspension.
- At the end of each semester Student Records will notify students placed on academic warning, probation, or suspension via myCCTC email. A student who wishes to appeal his or her suspension status due to extenuating circumstances is required to submit an academic appeal to Student Records by the close of business on the Wednesday before classes begin.
- Enrollment in DVS classes shall be limited to a maximum of 30 hours. Exceptions will be granted only to an individual who meets the College’s Standards of Progress and has the approval of the Vice-President for Student Affairs. All attempted hours of enrollment in classes numbering less than 100 shall be counted to include earned grades of XWF, XF, WA and W.
- Academic warning, academic probation and academic suspension are separate and independent of financial aid warning, probation, and suspension. Appeals for academic suspension must be submitted to Student Records by the close of business on the Wednesday before classes begin. Students should contact the Financial Aid Office if they have questions concerning Financial Aid warning, probation, or suspension.
