Kershaw County Campus hosts grand opening
Central Carolina Technical College’s Kershaw County Campus Expansion had its grand opening on Thursday, February 8. The 30,000 square foot facility is located off of Interstate 20 and Highway 521 in Camden.
A number of local and state officials, faculty and staff members, and representatives from the community attended the event at the new campus. Also, in attendance were Senator Vincent Sheheen, Representative Laurie Funderburk, Senator Thomas McElveen, Kershaw County Council Chairman Julian Burns, South Carolina Technical College System President Tim Hardee and CCTC Area Commission members.
The grand opening also included a ribbon cutting for the new campus and a tour of the new facility. “Today is a wonderful day for Central Carolina Technical College with the new expansion of our Kershaw County Campus,” said CCTC President Dr. Michael Mikota. “I am so excited to share in this moment for the innovation that we’re creating here and the opportunity for the citizens in this county to experience Central Carolina Technical College. We are the future of higher education; not just in South Carolina, not just in the United States, but globally.”
This campus offers complete Associate in Arts and Associate in Sciences programs on site, as well as other convenient credit courses. Beginning Fall 2018, the Engineering Design Technology Associate Degree and Basic Mechatronics Technology Certificate will be additional options. Students have access to multiple classrooms, computer labs, biology labs, a learning resource center, a full testing center, a student lounge, a bookstore and more.
“We are excited to unveil our new building here in Kershaw County,” said CCTC Program Manager for Kershaw County Nancy Reading. “We’ve not only expanded programs, but prospective students have access to admissions, financial aid, the testing center, book store and library all in the new Kershaw County campus building. One of the exciting features of the new campus is our new testing center that will offer CLEP, Work Keys, NACE and TEAS testing.”
Architectural design for the new building was handled by architectural design firm McMillan-Pazdan-Smith Architecture and the contractor for the project was Edcon, Inc.
