CCTC welding student places first in competition

Central Carolina Technical College Advanced Pipe Welding student Sam DuBose placed first in the 2019 South Carolina SkillsUSA Welding Competition which took place in Pendleton, South Carolina. Sam started his welding career at Sumter County Career and Technology Center as a junior in high school. He has continued his welding career at CCTC where he is now enrolled in the Advanced Pipe Welding program. Sam will represent South Carolina in the individual welding category at the National SkillsUSA Welding Competition in Louisville, Kentucky in June of this year. Sam says “the South Carolina SkillsUSA Welding Competition was a great test of my welding skills and knowledge. I look forward to competing at the national level.”

“The welding competition prepares students to work under pressure, complete tasks in a strict time frame and apply the skills they learned in the welding program. We are extremely proud of the performance of Sam Dubose during this year’s South Carolina SkillsUSA Welding Competition and we look forward to competing in June at nationals,” says CCTC Pipe Welding Instructor Lucas Bishop.

CCTC’s nationally recognized welding program prepares students for careers as welding engineers, sales engineers, manufacturing engineers, application engineering, project engineers and managers.
