CCTC name 2019 Military Friendly School-Bronze Level
Central Carolina Technical College has been designated a 2019 Military Friendly® School for the eighth consecutive year. The Military Friendly® School designation is awarded to the top colleges, universities, community colleges and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace military students, and to dedicate resources to ensure their success both in the classroom and after graduation.
The Military Friendly® Schools list is created each year based on extensive research using public data sources for over 8,800 schools nationwide, input from student veterans, and responses to the proprietary, data-driven Military Friendly® Schools survey from participating institutions. The survey questions, methodology, criteria and weightings were developed by Victory Media with the assistance of an independent research firm and an advisory council of educators and employers. The survey is administered for free and is open to all post-secondary schools that wish to participate.
CCTC serves approximately 400 active duty military members, dependents and veterans. To allow for greater academic flexibility for unpredictable military schedules, classes are offered in a variety of formats. Other CCTC resources include:
• An Admissions Specialist at the Shaw AFB Education Center Site
• A Veterans’ Affairs Representative on the Main Campus
• A Veterans Resource Center, which offers a variety of academic and career services in an environment where active duty, dependents and veteran students can socialize with fellow military students
• An active chapter of the Student Veterans of America on campus
• The Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) program
CCTC has ample financial aid resources available to military students as well. Active Duty military and their family members are afforded in-state tuition status, which makes them eligible for a variety of grants and scholarships, and through CCTC’s memorandum of understanding with the Department of Defense, the college participates in the Tuition Assistance Program for active duty members and the MyCAA program for military spouses.
“We provide many services for our active military and dependent students in effort to ease access to the college and to make the transition from military life to civilian life for veterans. These services, in addition to many others, are why we have been recognized as a Military Friendly School for the eighth consecutive year. We are so very proud to serve our military population,” says CCTC’s Vice President of Student Affairs Lisa Bracken.
