CCTC Hosts First Nurses Night

In an effort to publicly recognize the nearly 40 years of nursing graduates at CCTC, the college and CCTC Foundation will host the first Nurses Night on May 3, 2022 at La Piazza in downtown Sumter.

Nurses Night is a new tradition at Central Carolina Technical College honoring nurse graduates and their dedication to the health care needs in the communities we serve. In the past ten years, more than 850 students received their Associate Degree in Nursing from the college and 171 of those went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

More importantly, this group of graduates has been critical in providing necessary support during the pandemic. The college continued to educate nursing students and will graduate more than 100 new registered nurses in May and August this year.

This event is the brainchild of former CCTC Dean of Health Sciences Mary Jo Ardis. It was planned for 2020 and of course was postponed due to COVID. Ardis envisioned a night when former nursing graduates could come back for a reunion and be celebrated for their achievements. Members of the original 1983 nursing class will be present as well.

The date for Nurses Night, May 3, was strategically chosen because it is the day before the treasured nurses pinning ceremony and is a few days before the start date of National Nurses Week. The college will also recognize the 2022 Outstanding Alumni at Nurses Night.

Money raised from this event will go back into programs to benefit the CCTC nursing program and the alumni partnership. Current sponsors include Presenting Sponsor McLeod Health, Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, Fresenius Kidney Care, Karesh Long Term Care and Rehab, MUSC Health Kershaw Medical Center, Tandem Health, Thompson and Sumter Uniform.

Tickets are available for purchase to nursing graduates and guests for $25 each at cctech.edu/nursesnight. The evening will include entertainment by Casey Cotton of Blazin’ Keys Entertainment, food by Hampton’s and a silent auction.
