Central Carolina Technical College Distributes CARES Act Payments to Students

SUMTER, SC — Central Carolina Technical College officials are pleased to announce some good news to its current students. All eligible students enrolled in at least one course in a degree seeking program which was not exclusively online as of March 16, 2020, will receive some form of assistance from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

In total, CCTC received approximately $1.4 million in federal funds through the CARES Acts to be awarded directly to students enrolled during the Spring semester and affected by COVID-19. This federal aid helps college students whose lives have been disrupted, many of whom are facing financial challenges and struggling to make ends meet. This emergency financial aid grant is designed to help cover expenses, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care and childcare.

“These are unprecedented and challenging times for CCTC students and everyone alike,” says Dr. Michael Mikota, president of CCTC. “We know our students find themselves grappling with issues they never imagined, and we want to assure them we are here to provide resources that they may need. That is why we’re focused on implementing the CARES Act quickly and faithfully.”

Current CCTC students who met the eligibility requires of the CARES Act received payments Thursday, April 23, 2020 through the college’s Bank Mobile payment and refund system.
