What Qualifies Students to be College Ready?

HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA QUALIFYING REQUIREMENTS

Standard South Carolina High School Diploma within the last 5 years with the following.

  • 3.0 or higher SC UGP GPA (weighted GPA)
  • Completion of required courses with “C” or better as shown in the below chart
    • Courses taken through the 2015-2016 academic year, C = 77 or higher
    • Courses taken the 2016-2017 academic year and later, C = 70 or higher

 

ENGLISH: Completion of 4 high school English courses with “C” or better
READING NOT REQUIRED: Completion of 4 high school English courses with “C” or better
MATH:

 

Completion of the following 4 high school math courses with “C” or better

o   Algebra I (to include Algebra I-A/Algebra I-B or Foundations in Algebra/Intermediate Algebra)

o   Algebra II

o   Geometry

o   One of the following Math Courses (Algebra III, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Probability and Statistics)

COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY: Completion of ONE of the following high school computer courses with a “C” or better AND Reading Not Required

o   IBA (Integrated Business Applications)

o   Keyboarding

o   Sumter School District’s Computer Programing I

o   Sumter School District’s Exploring Computer Science

o   Kershaw County School District’s Exploring Computer Science

o   Laurence Manning Academy’s Computer Science

o   Robert E. Lee’s Computer I

o   Thomas Sumter’s Computer Applications

o   Homeward Education Association’s Intro: Microsoft Office 365

Additional information you should know:

  • All eligible High School Diplomas and scores from the ACT, SAT, and Placement Assessment are good for 5 years.
  • Students can use a combination of qualifying scores and the High School Diploma if minimum requirements are met.
  • Students must take the Computer Technology Placement test if minimum requirements for the High School Diploma is not met.
