Online Course Quality

Central Carolina Technical College's online and hybrid courses meet quality design requirements as outlined in the College's Quality Course Standards and Online Quality Course (QC) Rubric and meet departmental and peer review approval. The Course Quality Standards are provided below.

  • Course Home Page contains A News item with:  course dates; instructor contact information and availability; instructions to use email from the D2L Classlist; and instructions on how to begin.

  • The Course Overview includes the course description from the College Catalog.   The first module under Content is named Course Information and includes a Getting Started or Welcome letter; the current course syllabus (Parts A, B, & C); course printable schedule/calendar; and other course information which clearly communicates the course requirements and expectations of the course to the student; clearly defined on-campus requirements (testing, labs, etc.); and clearly defined attendance monitoring methods.

  • Course results in learning objectives/competencies appropriate to the program; the course is equivalent (same objectives/competencies) to an on-campus course.

  • All course Modules are complete for the course, are reasonably sized, and are presented in a weekly (or other appropriate) format and contain the following: Student learning objectives and instructions for the module (uploaded as a separate document); Learning activities such as: pre-assessment, assigned reading, instructional video, assignment, project, web research, or other activity; Post assessment.

  • Course provides opportunities for students to interact with the instructor and with other students through email, discussion board, chat sessions, web-conferencing, etc. and students are encouraged and/or required to participate in course or group communications.

  • Instructor communicates that he/she will provide prompt and regular feedback and provides times he/she will be available for virtual office hours; communicates response times for course work, email and discussion board messages, etc. (Note: Response time should be 48 hours for email and discussion board postings and within one week to assignments and tests.)

  • Assessment methods are matched to course objectives/competencies and online assessment tools are used where feasible in order to accommodate remote testing and remote proctored testing. (Examples include online quizzes, surveys, self-assessments and practice tests, writing assignments, electronic presentations, portfolios, projects, papers, video-recorded submissions of presentations, etc. Group projects are also encouraged.)

  • Course adheres to Copyright and Accessibility requirements.

  • Course provides appropriate reference/links to online resources and support materials; including publisher websites, library databases, online resources and websites; etc.

  • The grade book is set up and agrees with the evaluation method as stated in Syllabus Part C.
