SUMTER, SC — On Monday, July 18, The Foundation for Geriatric Education (TFGE), Murfreesboro, TN, awarded $13,500 to Central Carolina Technical College’s Health Sciences Center for the purchase of four geriatric simulators. With this award, TFGE has donated over $20,000 to CCTC’s Health Sciences Center over the past six years. The four simulators will be used to teach patient care of older adults to nursing, nursing assistant and massage therapy students.

Jeanie Crotts, administrator of NHC HealthCare Sumter, presented the check to Dr. Karen Cowell, RN, dean of Health Sciences. Crotts initially approached Dr. Cowell about applying for funding through TFGE. Crotts stated, “We are happy to help Central Carolina because they do such a great job preparing their health sciences students for their careers. Good nurses and CNAs are a vital part of our ability to provide quality care, and we depend on Central Carolina to train them.  Additionally, their Massage Therapy Program has recently assisted us in enhancing our offerings for patient-centered care.”
