Central Carolina Technical College pins 54 new nurses

 

SUMTER, S.C. – Central Carolina Technical College pinned 54 new nurses during two ceremonies held Wednesday, August 5 at Sumter Opera House in downtown Sumter.

Thirteen students earned their Diploma in Practical Nursing (PN) at 10 a.m. and
41 students earned their Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) at 6 p.m.

The pinning ceremony traces its roots back to more than 130 years to Florence Nightingale. Since the early days of Nightingale’s “Training School for Nurses,” it has been tradition for nursing graduates to be pinned upon their successful graduation.

CCTC’s Health Sciences Division offers an Associate Degree in Applied Science with a major in Nursing, and Diplomas in Medical Assisting, Practical Nursing, and Surgical Technology, and certificates in Massage Therapy, Medical Record Coding, and Pharmacy Technology. Health Sciences programs are designed to provide graduates with immediate employment in the health care industry or prepare graduates to transfer to articulating colleges.

 

Diploma in Practical Nursing (PN)

The Diploma in Practical Nursing (PN) program is designed to provide a sound educational background to those individuals interested in providing direct patient care. The practical nurse functions under the direction of a registered nurse, licensed physician or licensed dentist.

The 13 graduates, in alphabetical order, include: Raveen Cermone Bracey, Sherry Elizabeth Capers, Mayce Chandler, Stephen Taylor Crouch, Myra Renee Dukes, Angela T. Ferguson, LuQuiwa M. Goings, Lydia Jackson, Sheila Tayra Johnson, Jessica D. King, Grace Elaine McClellan, Erica McLeod, and Chery Len Vrankovich.

 

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

The Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program at Central Carolina Technical College prepares graduates to take the National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and is approved by the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation (LLR) Board of Nursing. The program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
