Determining Grade Point Average (GPA)

Academic Honors
President's List
Students who are enrolled in at least 12 semester credit hours and who achieve a 4.0 grade-point-average for the semester will be placed on the President's List.
President's List for Part-Time Students
Students who are enrolled in at least 6 credit hours but no more than 11 credit hours, and who achieve a 4.0 grade-point-average for the semester will be placed on the President's List for Part-Time Students.
Dean's List
Students who are enrolled in at least 12 semester credit hours and who achieve at least a 3.5 grade-point average for the semester will be placed on the Dean's List.
Dean's List for Part-Time Students
Students who are enrolled in at least 6 credit hours but no more than 11 credit hours, and achieve at least a 3.5 grade-point average for the semester will be placed on the Dean's List for Part-time Students.
Note: Transitional studies or preparatory courses will not be considered for Dean's List, Dean's List for Part-Time Students, President's List, or President's List for Part-time Students. These courses do not count toward a student's GPA for scholastic honors.
Graduation Honors
- Students achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.500 to 3.699 will be designated at graduation "Cum Laude."
- Students achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.700 to 3.899 will be designated at graduation "Magna Cum Laude."
- Students achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.900 to 4.0 will be designated at graduation "Summa Cum Laude."
Phi Theta Kappa seeks to recognize and encourage scholarship among associate degree students. According to its international guidelines, the organization "provides opportunity for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate to exchange ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence." Membership in the Central Carolina chapter of Phi Theta Kappa is limited to associate degree students who have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 after completion of 12 or more credit hours.
