CCTC students participate in community Halloween project
Central Carolina Technical College's Criminal Justice Club joined with local law enforcement and community members to help make Halloween a little safer this year.
The 2008 shooting death of a young Sumter child while trick-or-treating prompted local couple, Braden and Wren Bunch, to action. The couple collected used political signs, stripped them of their signage, and had new signage printed to attach to the frames.
Mrs. Bunch, who is on staff with CCTC, approached the faculty advisor of the Criminal Justice Club, Mr. Chris Hall, about involving his students in assembling the final product. His answer was an enthusiastic 'yes'. The club met Thursday, October 22, and assembled 150 signs within minutes. The group then transported the signs to the Sumter Police Department, who will distribute them free of charge to anyone in the community that would like one.
"These students really have made the task of putting all of these signs together seem easy", said Mrs. Bunch, "The entire group was enthusiastic about the project. They all got right down to work, and finished them so quickly. We are so thankful for their help."
