Health Sciences faculty busy in and out of classroom

With graduation and the pinning of new nurses coming in May, the faculty of Central Carolina's Health Sciences Division have been very busy preparing the next generation of health care providers. However, several of the faculty have also been very busy outside the classroom.

Faculty member Sarah Roland presented an abstract entitled "Success in Nursing School" at Mosby's Faculty Development Institute conference, held in San Francisco this past January. This national conference for nursing educators was entitled "Future Directions of Nursing Education During Challenging Times."

Biology faculty member Max Weber has also been selected to present an abstract at a national conference. Weber will be presenting at the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society 23rd Annual Conference in Baltimore this May. Weber will conduct a workshop entitled "A&P and Student Learning Styles: the VARK Method." VARK deals with the different ways students learn: Visual, Auditory, Read/Write, Kinesthetic.

Science Department Chair Bryan May has written an article entitled "Determining the Volume of CO2 in a Package of Pop Rocks Candy." The article was published in the February 2009 issue of Chem 13 News and was featured on the cover of the Canadian magazine.

Finally, Debbie Babb, Science Instructor, has been inducted into the Golden Key International Honour Society - the world's premier collegiate honor society with more than 1.7 million members and over 360 chapters globally.  Membership into the Society is by invitation only to students in all fields of study.  "It is only fitting that a top academic achiever like Debbie be recognized by Golden Key," said John Mitchell, Golden Key's Chief Executive Officer.
