New program manager, Dyno rev up automotive program
Central Carolina Technical College’s automotive department has gotten a new program manager and an exciting piece of equipment.
David Moore will be taking over the program manager position with the department. Mr. Moore brings a background in performance upgrades and almost 15 years of experience in dealership service departments.
The department has also recently acquired a DynoTech dynometer, a piece of diagnostic equipment designed to gauge a vehicle’s power and performance. The torque and rotation speed of a vehicle are measured by strapping the car down atop a rotating cylinder in the floor. The vehicle is then run at high speeds and the information is transferred to a computer that translates it all into easily readable outputs.
Jack Neal, Dean of Industrial Technology, says that hiring a program manager with performance upgrade experience and obtaining the Dyno really gets the program ready for eager automotive students that want more than the standard repair education.
As an introduction to the new technology and program manager, the department will be offering a Performance Tuning Dyno course that lasts 4 weeks at a cost of $325, beginning July 26, 2008. The students will get to run their own cars on the Dyno twice in the course of the class and learn . If you are interested in the four-week performance class, contact Jim Shrift, the continuing education program manager, at (803) 778-7862 or shriftjg@cctech.edu. Space in the class is limited to 12 students.
CCTC’s automotive department is certified by the National Automotive Technicians Education association (NATEF).
