Orientation for Online Students slated this week
Friday, January 11, 2008
With an ever-growing number of students taking online courses through the Distance Education at Central Carolina Technical College, it is more important than ever to ensure that students are properly prepared for the unique challenges of those courses. For that purpose, Central Carolina will host a series of orientations for first-time online students this week.
Anyone enrolled in an online course at the college for the first time is strongly encouraged to attend. During the session, students will be introduced to the software used to manage online courses, and faculty and staff of the college will be on-hand and to provide guidance on how to make the first semester of online courses a success for the student.
Orientations will be held at the following locations and times:
Main Campus-Sumter:
Jan. 14 at 4:00 pm in Rooms M121-E, M121-F
Jan. 15 at 4:00 pm in Rooms M121-E, M121-F
Kershaw Campus:
Jan. 15 at 4:00 pm in Lab K1
F.E. DuBose Campus-Manning:
Jan. 15 at 4:00 pm in Room C302
In addition to these orientations, the college has also begun a program in which its instructors are specially trained for the challenges of teaching online.
Over the years, the demand for online courses has continued to grow, and this spring more than 70 courses sections are being offered through various forms of distance learning. These courses provide a very good alternative to those in the military or who otherwise have demanding work schedules and time constraints. Currently, there are more than 700 students taking at least one online course at Central Carolina.
